Its Luana Design
Like any good ol' designer, I struggled a lot to create my own logo. I think it’s the level of pressure we put on ourselves that makes us try, give up, try again, give up again, and repeat the same cycle over and over.
The process of finally getting to a result was interesting. I’ve been working in design for almost a decade, and it was only this year, that I created something I genuinely liked.
And it happened in a completely unexpected way (I wonder why this kind of thing still surprises me 😅).
Process
I was working on a totally different project when I saw a reference that made me think, “this could work for my logo.” I immediately grabbed a pencil and a piece of paper and started sketching. Within seconds (literally) I got to something that made me think, “dang, this is it. I love it. Let’s go.” And then I let it be. I didn’t keep refining it endlessly because I knew I’d fall back into the same loop I’d been stuck in so many times over the years. I drew it, brought it into Illustrator, cleaned it up a little, exported it, and started using it.
Outcomes
Now it lives here on the website, and as you may have seen on the homepage, when I created it, I thought it looked so cute, almost like a balloon or a bubblegum bubble, and I really wanted to bring that to life. Today, we can basically create almost anything we can imagine. So I made that interactive animation in Claude Design. Of course, it took lots of testing, refining, reference research, and learning along the way, but I ended up with a result I loved and that feels completely like me.
Oh, and one important detail:
I realized that ILD doesn’t only stand for It’s Luana Design. It also stands for I Love Design 🥹 (how f cute is that?!?!!?).
Just to give you a little more context…
The name It’s Luana Design came about eight years ago, when I created my Instagram account and needed a username that felt interesting and like me. I came up with that name, and it stayed.
Almost a decade later, I finally created a logo that feels completely connected to who I am, and that finally got me out of this endless loop of trying to design a logo for myself.
There’s another important part of the story too. When I was first choosing a username, It’s Luana Design was the first name that came to mind. But along the way, I changed my mind several times. I thought about creating a studio, building a team, and coming up with a separate name for it. So yes, I actually changed it more than once (several tbh).
But I always really liked the original name.
Then one day, while I was working on a project with a client, I was also developing another brand idea for myself, something that didn’t include my name and could exist separately from me.
At one point, this client said, “wait, did you change your username? I really liked the Luana one. It feels so much like you.”
That was all I needed to hear. I didn’t even have to think twice.
And that’s the story. 😁
